the smuggler’s bible

Bleoberis and Blamore aren’t exactly sure who killed their cousin, but boy have they got a hunch.

King Anguish says he’s innocent, and he shows up at the trial with some muscle that he figures will prove him right. The brothers draw straws to pick who gets to conk the bastard. Blamore pulls short, and the fight starts. His horse goes down almost immediately, spitting blood.

“All right, fine—at least you can trust the ground to stay under you when it counts,” Blamore says with his sword out and his heels dug in like he’s got something to lose.
