Damocles

Sometimes all you need to change a person’s mind is a single strand of horse’s hair and creativity. When Dionysus tries it, though, he starts an argument.

“C’mon, old timer,” Damocles says, hunkering under the shields his guards have hoisted. “Tell me straight. Do I have to worry about you setting traps everywhere I go?”

“Well, no. But it’s a metaphor about power. Of course it falls apart if you parse it too closely.”

“Metaphor?” Damocles leans out carefully and peers at the sword swaying in the rafters. Its tip glows in the torchlight. “Are you absolutely sure that’s correct?”
