the smuggler’s bible

Byrhtnoth

Byrhtnoth heads up the river with seventeen picked men and his sword Skulltwister. It’s hard rowing the whole way, but they expect that it will be worth it after they come home with the Bishop’s money. Lots and lots of the Bishop’s money.

The first six gates all stand broken, still smoldering from Snake-in-the-Eye’s siege ten years ago. Only dogs live there—jackals and pale men who cringe through the rubble. The old poems say there are thirteen walls to topple in all. Byrhtnoth’s band is halfway there already—and besides, who ever trusted a poet to count right, anyway?
