Ancillary

Ancillary is the thirteenth child in a family that—if we’re being honest—ran out of good names before the howling progeny outnumbered the grandparents pressganged into babysitting them. She shares an attic room with Jane Again and Supplemental—numbers eleven and twelve, respectively.

“It’s seems kind of extra, right? Like, why in the world would our parents subjects us to this? Why would they subject themselves to this?”

“Taxes, maybe?” Supplemental says.

“I can’t imagine it’s worth it. Consider how much they have to shell out for birthdays.”

“Ugh.” Jane Again frowns and shivers. “Don’t say the ‘B’ word.”
