The old man rips Davey’s stub with a wink. “First time?” he says. “Well, keep an open mind.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Huh?”

“Why the hell would you say that? It’s a circus. Shouldn’t be much, you know, challenging content. Just clowns and stuff.”

Davey looks around at the empty parking lot, then down at his ticket. “Cursed circus, huh?” he says.

The old man shrugs.

Davey sighs. “Fuck,” he says. “Not this again.”
