the smuggler’s bible

Orville

Orville is behind schedule, dragging a forty-ton trailer through the cool night when he makes the kind of mistake the old timers warn you about. He curses Sandy for being Tuscon’s prettiest waitress and giving a man hope, then hooks his wheel toward Agony Spire Pass—the devil’s very own shortcut.

Years after, he tells the boys there’s quite a story concerning how he came screaming down the switchbacks at dawn on an odd number of wheels, trying to get clear of the mountain’s shadow. But better leave it there, Orville says with a wink. That’s how rumors get started.
