the smuggler’s bible

Agatha

At the last minute, Agatha sees the broom that has fallen across the doorway. She jumps, trips anway, lands painfully and makes it to the phone on the fourteenth ring.

“Hello,” she says. “Yes. No. I was just out for a few minutes.”

Rodney appears in the doorway, motioning urgently with his hands.

“An order that big,” Agatha says, staring at Rodney, trying to focus her hate into a killing ray of death, “would take two weeks. Three at the outside. Uh huh. Sure. Let us know.”

“What’s up?” Rodney says when she’s finished. “I thought you were on break.”
